Deadly Tornado Claims Two Lives, Leaves Thosands Without Power, and Destroys Residences and Businesses - Birmingham, AL
Hearts With Hands has learned that a deadly tornado has claimed two victims in Jefferson County in Central Alabama.  The coroner's office has identified the victims as 83 year old Frank Sims of Oak Grove community, and 16 year old Christina Nicole Heichelbech in Clay.  Both victims were killed when their residences were destroyed.

Over 56,000 residents and businesses remain without power due to a tornado which travelled from Tuscaloosa, through Jefferson County and into St. Claire County during a two hour stretch according to National Weather Service Meteorologists.

2006 – Western Tennessee – Tornados – Delivered a tractor trailer load of disaster relief to the victims.

2005 – Christmas From The Heart – Helped 600 children in Western NC and 600 children in Mississippi to have a better Christmas.

2005 – Florida – Hurricane Wilma – Advance team contacted churches and assisted in the set up of a relief center Immokalee.

2005 – Louisiana – Texas – Hurricane Rita – Distributed two tractor trailer loads of disaster relief supplies.

2005 – Gulf Coast – United States – Assisted with Hurricane Katrina Relief – Over 180 semi loads of disaster relief supplies and food.  8,000+ man hours spent in service throughout the area.  Over 8 million dollars worth of goods and services distributed throughout the affected region. (ONGOING)

2005 – Florida – Hurricane Dennis – Sent an advance team which assisted local churches in distributing relief supplies.

2005 – Haywood County, NC – Spearheaded a campaign called “Spring Into Action”, a project that will build a flood victim a new home with the help of local businesses.  (ONGOING)

2005 – India Tsunami Relief – Sent a medical/feeding team to Tiruvuru India.  In fourteen days they were able to help a local orphanage to prepare for the rise in orphans in the area, feed nearly 19,000 people, and medically treat nearly 1,000 individuals who were survivors of the tsunami.

2005 – Sri Lanka – Sent over 120,000 pounds of disaster relief supplies in containers to tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. 

2004 – Florida – Provided over $350,000 worth of disaster supplies and food along with over 1,500 volunteer man hours in food distribution and debris removal.

2004 – Western North Carolina Floods – Distributed over $1,000,000 in cash and disaster relief supplies to flood damaged areas with efforts ongoing.

2004 – Christmas From The Heart – Helped over 400 under-privileged children with Christmas in western North Carolina.

2003 – Jackson, Tennessee – Tornados – Sent teams and disaster relief supplies to the Midwest to assist with the night over 300 tornadoes hit the Midwest

2003 – Beacon Fire, Swannanoa Community – Largest fire in western North Carolina; provided logistical support for Buncombe County.

2003 – Asheville, North Carolina – Community Emergency Response Teams (C.E.R.T.) – Set up training for Buncombe County residents for a disaster preparedness course which was initiated by President Bush’s Citizen’s Corp Initiative. (ONGOING)

2003 – Asheville, North Carolina – Developed a four-hour seminar for disaster preparedness called “PIP” (Preparedness Is Paramount). (ONGOING)

2003 – Asheville, North Carolina – Established a voucher program to assist local disaster victims with clothing and other household items through Goodwill Industries, Inc. (ONGOING)

2003 – Asheville, North Carolina – Established a program called “School Tools” to help local underprivileged children with school supplies. (ONGOING)

2003 – Eastern North Carolina – Hurricane Isabel –Over 150,000 pounds of disaster supplies and food distributed along with over 1,000 volunteer man hours in debris removal and food distribution.

2003 – Hatteras Island, NC – Carolina Christmas –Provided food, new rain gear and blankets to children and residents of Hatteras Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel.

2003 – West Virginia Christmas – Directed over 10,000 pounds of food and blankets to a mining area of southern Appalachia.

2003 – Virginia – Assisted a small charity, “Mission of Peace” with food and blankets after their facility was flooded in late November of 2003.

2003 – Christmas From The Heart – Provided over 600 underprivileged children with Christmas in western North Carolina.
